My husband dropped his keys right next to the sofa, and he "acted" like he couldn't find them. I stuck my arm underneath to swat them out and.......there IT was... It was my mother's engagement ring, given to her by my father. So, naturally I said...

"YOU STOLE MY MOTHER'S RING????"

....and, he said, "WTF?" We had a very long laugh over it....

We were married December 24, 2001, and are still going strong.

I want it to happen when time is right. If I'm shopping and the guy comes up to me asking if I'll propose, I'll decline because already the guy has proven that he's a total jerk! The way I want my proposal to be, is formally. I don't mean regally, but not informally either of course. Maybe at a nice restaurant, we're sipping any drink besides alcohol, and we're slow dancing to a nice song. We've just finished our dance session and I'm very tired. So I sit down and my fiancee starts dancing with a really gorgeous 22-year-old and I get pissed at him for doing this. An hour or two's gone by, I'm in the bathroom crying because I've thought that this was the night. I come out and I'm texting my friend away, continually stating how pissed I am, and then my fiancee comes up. He asks me, gentlemanly, if I'd like to have one last dance. I give up and say yes, he rocks me side to side and holds me closely to his chest. It seems like a millennium, but when the song does end, over dessert he pops the question with a breathtaking ring and the dessert's blown me away as well, the whole night has, actually, so obviously I propose and the rest of our marriage is peaceful and happy and every so often he and I caress ourselves against each other out in the moonlight whilst dancing!

Do it so that the person is not expecting it but don't spring it on them if you haven't talked about it. But do it so that it is your most favorite memory that you will never forget and will want to tell your grandchildren about, having lunch on a rock in the middle of a stream or river, something normal but at the same time different. And only propose to someone that you are truly in love with and want to spend the rest of your life with because it takes longer to get a divorce than it does to get married.

I was a coward. I proposed by giving her a ring. Could not think of anything brilliant to say. She loved the ring. Still married for 30 years. And she still wears the ring.

Biggest mistake I've ever made in my life. Got down on one knee. Right out of the book.

I was giving my husband a back rub one night and he goes "will you marry me?" and I started laughing thinking he was just kidding cause of the back rub.

Awkward silence..

and then..

"Seriously.."

Anything's gotta be more romantic than that.
