It'll be almost forgotten. I'm not sure about other people's communities, but in mine, nobody even payed attention to the anniversary. I didin't see many flags hanging, and we didn't discuss it in any of my high school classes. In actuality, 9/11 was not a very important event. The world economy remains unaffected, terrorist attacks have not dramtically increased in any major location except Iraq, and the planning for the invasion of Iraq was already underway. What most Americans forget about Iraq is that a low-level war against Saddam had been going for 15 years prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom. The US bombed Baghdad and other locations in Iraq under Clinton and troops were located in the Persian Gulf, and conflict between the West, North Korea, and Iran was already showing up in the newspapers, in case anybody attributes that to 9/11. So I'm not sure what "people" will think about 9/11 in 20 years, but historians will consider it a minor blip, a footnote in history, not beginning of a "post 9/11 world" as our President likes to say.

PS: Those who compare 9/11 to Pearl Harbor are utterly mistaken. Roosevelt and his generals had already been planning for war with Japan. B-29 bombers had been sent to the Philippines in preperation for a bombing campaign against Tokyo. What they didn't realize was that a) Japan would strike first and that b) bombers won't win a war. Roosevelt had also cut off American trade of oil with Japan, which he knew would provoke hostilities, since the Japanese had little oil reserves of their own. My point is, Pearl Harbor was the beginning of a war Roosevelt was looking for and planning for. 9/11 was completely unexpected.

Bombing of Pearl Harbour in the forties has gone down in history as infamy. I suppose 9/11 will do the same. Unfortunately I feel worse is yet to come and 9/11 may pale in comparison

In 20 years we will still remember 9\11 because it was a completely horrible thing that happened to the US, I will always remember the fear that was in my school that day. I will always remember the reactions that happened that day among the teachers and my parents. America lost lives along with a lot of other countries, and that date will be a holiday in the future.

pearl harbor was yesterday's 9-11. i do belive that history will rate the day the towers fell to be just as horrendous as the day pearl harbor was attacked by japan. the only difference is, with pearl harbor, we knew exactly who we needed to go after: japan. with 9-11, it's the radical muslim's who, for some reason, have decided to declare war against the u.s.

the same way some of us still feel about pearl harbor, or the Vietnam war in general, we will always feel compelled to ask why, even if all the answers have been given.

since opinions about wars diminish over time, they probably will just view it as the event that sparked the U.S./Iraq war.
