My son is not circumsized. I have heard not to pull back the foreskin until he is about a year old. But I don't want it to get dirty in there, help!

It wont. If you can't move it then nothing can get in there. Don't force the skin back. My son is 4 and is not circumcised either. His foreskin still doesn't come back all the way. The doctor said it will and not to force it. Your baby will be fine. Don't worry if you can help it being a new parent and all.

DO NOT RETRACT!!!
The penis is a self-cleaning organ!

The foreskin is fused to glans until it is naturally ready to separate. This could take up to 18 years. The only person to ever retract the foreskin should be the owner of the foreskin!

You wouldn't break the hyman and swab out a baby girl's vagina, right? This is similar to forcing back the forseskin. Both are self cleaning and should be left alone. To force it back even "just a little" can cause tears and abrasions and let in bacteria which can lead to infection. The glanspenis is protecte from fecal contamination be the adherance of the foreskin until puberty sometimes.

Wipe it like a finger. You don't peel back the fingernails to clean underneath right? Same idea!

Just leave it alone. My four year old son 'discovered' it pulled back all on its on. You will cause the skin to tear if you pull it back for him. The other poster was right, at this age it will self clean. If you can't pull it back, nothing can get in either. My son had one round of redness on his tip just after he found out the skin came back (I guess it's like finding gold for little boys) we put on a little polysporin and it was fine. We just told him not to keep fiddling with it and to make sure he washes properly at shower/bath time. He knows there could be discomfort associated if he did keep retracting so he stopped quickly.

DO NOT pull it back, even when he is a year old! It will be retractable when he is close to school aged. Then he should just retract the skin and rinse with water.

Now, while he is little, the foreskin is still attached to the glans. This is to keep poop and stuff out! Pulling it back right now would feel like ripping off one of your fingernails. There is NOTHING special that you need to do to keep it clean.

All you have to do is rinse him with a little mild soap and water. DO NOT RETRACT HIS FORESKIN! It would HURT and cause problems for him. Forcing the foreskin back may harm the penis, causing pain, bleeding, and possibly adhesions.

The foreskin is still attached to the penis, so pulling it back is ripping skin. Just use water and maybe a little soap on the outside and it will be fine.

I agree with momma2mingbu. Review the references she listed. It is a personal choice whether a parent chooses to circumcise or not, and others shouldn't pass judgement. I had no preference, and let my husband decide. As a registered nurse, I know that it is mostly done for cosmetic reasons. Good luck and congrats!

I had both of my sons circumsized but thier cousin wasnt and I used to watch him. What I would do is with one of those nose sucker things i would fill it up with some warm water and carefully pulling the skin back only slightly would then rinse the area off with the water then I would put alittle vaseline on the area to prevent the urine from sitting up there under the skin. I remember the first time i changed him I felt so sorry for him because his little thing was all purple and red and sore looking. After I took care of him for a week it was more a normal color. You just have to be careful not to pull the skin back to much so you dont hurt the little guy by tearing it. I was so glad that I had my boys circumsized they are too. They are grown men now and have told me many times how thankful they are. In Jr high school is when they told me for the first time thanks for not making them go thru life with a funny looking peins. I would try and get your son in the habit as he grows to keep it really clean under the skin and save his future girlfriend or wife the unpleasantness of lint and who knows what else getting inside her when they have intercourse. Without that skin they also are so much cleaner when they pee since they can aim better. You'll wish you would of had it done when you start potty training him and you find him having trouble aiming the stream straight and he ends up with pee on the floor and all over the toilet. When you do potty train its easier to have them go in the shower in the mornings . Its easier to rinse the shower or tub than try and get the pee smell out of the tiles. You;ll see.

I have two son's and I did not circumcise them, nor was there father circumcised. Just pull it back a bit and wash it in warm water with a little soap. As they got older, I washed it for them and told them not to let others touch is private area. When it came to teaching him to clean it, I told them to pull back the foreskin and wash it, and if they did not, it would fall off. today, one son is 14 and the other is 12.
