i have a 1984 three wheeler with stock pipes wondering if i need it or not if so do you know where i could buy 1?

If it's the stock pipe it probably has a spark arrestor in place.

Look on the muffler/silencer. It will be stamped as being "U.S. Forestry Service Approved" if it has one.

spark arrestors are usually used on off road 2 stroke machines and are mandatory on these bikes to avoid bush fires, they also have a great muffling affect, in some places you are not allowed to use 2 strokes in the forest without one for this very reason, you will note that when the same machine is used for racing the spark arrestor is removed it restricts engine performance slightly
but can deafen the rider and anyone else close by

all a spark arrestor is for is to prevent sparks or flames to exit the tailpipe and cause fires. it's just a safety feature for mostly off roading.

Spark arresters are required in many areas. check with the local bike shop before you go riding.

it depends on where you ride,some states require them by law to prevent fires
check local rules
