I'm not talking about ending the alliance, just cutting off the $3 billion a year.

My answer: Israel would be free do to the "Palestinians" what every other country would have done years ago. Any attack by Hamas, Fatah, or Hezbollah would be met with the full force of the IDF. No restraint.

Interesting. But the U.S. is Israel's biggest foreign backer, and although the IDF is the most dominant military force in the Middle East (besides the coalition in Iraq, of course), it gets most of its weapons and money from the U.S. Of course, Ehud Olmert would be free to do what he wants with Palestine, Hezbollah and the rest of Israel's enemies when they attack, but without U.S. money, the Israeli Defense Force would be much less powerful.

Israel would have to show more restraint. America is Israel's strongest ally. Without America, Israel has very little support. If it does anything extreme against the Palestinians, the whole Arab world could declare war on it. Without support from such an influential nation, Israel would not have the weaponry to deal with such a threat.

I am afraid that you are correct, Israel would be free of the moderating force that it's ties with the U.S. put on it. I was researching for an answer to another question earlier tonight and part of the research was to do as the asker wanted and google UN resolutions against Israel. Have you ever tried this? If you did, did you also google UN resolutions against Lebanon? How about UN resolutions against the "Palestinian People" or "Palestinian State"? With all of the violent attacks against Israel that involve mass murder of strictly civilian targets and the use of children to commit these attacks, why could I find no UN resolution against either of these two peoples? Could it be true, the UN is the lapdog of all that is corrupt and evil, and it is trying to widen it's sphere of power and influence?

Back to your question though, Israel would be forced to defend itself when the cowards that seek it's destruction find out it has lost our support. That money is many times all that stands between Israel and those nations, I say this because that money buys more than weapons, it pays for leverage and influence. Without those things the dogs baying at Israels fences will claw their way under and do their best to tear her throat out. If that happens I will have to say, God have mercy on these fools, because the Jewish people cannot afford to do so, nor will they. I do not have to say what this would mean in all reality, we all know how limited the jewish peoples options are if say Iran and Syria were to invade, they have made clear that it is their wish to wipe them out, leaving no jew in all the middle east or the entire world if possible. The Israelis' have in the past proven themselves to be capable of incredible things in the defense of themselves, who would step forward to put out the fire of they feel the need to do so again on such a scale? I tell you who, no one, for no human would be able to walk the scorched earth the middle east will become if we do not stand now beside them.

I agree with you. The only reason israel shows any restraint is because we tell them to. Many countries in the middle east "tolerate" Israel, but would level them if they attacked another Arab country. Bush 1 held them back in the first Gulf war to hold the coalition together. Israel almost sunk a US warship in the 60's that wandered to close during one of their Arab wars and claimed oopsie afterwards. Without us standing behind them, Israel would be gone in a blink. Personally, I think the whole middle east should be nuked and we could start over. Like shaving your head after a bad haircut. 90 % of the worlds problems...gone. No Islamo facists. No jews ******* **** up. No endless cesspool of death and wasted money. Think about it. If Iraq did not exist and there was no middle east, there would be no 911, no terrorism, etc.

The US gives identical amounts to Israek and Egypt. I never hear anyone complain about the money we give Egypt.

Most of what we give Israel are for the purchase of US made weapons. The govt is subsidizing the war industries.

I like your thinking.... I can not understand why Israel must show "restraint" and the Palestinians are given a pass.

That would be maintaining the status quo. For the last 60 years the U.S. has sent hundreds of billions in aid to foreign countries. Shouldn't we start talking about reigning that in? It is our money after all.

I did not notice the Israelis doing what they wanted in Lebanon not so long ago even though they bombed the hell out of it with approval from the usa. I envy some of you folks , you have much to learn.

I agree that Israel would open up-no holds barred smack down on their enemies. I think that if we withdrew the money it would improve relation between us and all arab nations. Simply the farther we withdraw help and support for Israel the less trouble we would have with all muslim countries, terrorists, and even might get oil cheaper.

American aid to Israel covers about 1 percent of Israel's budget.

Big deal!
