i think that being fat is like any other kind of , blame it on someone else thing, i mean i realize that there are people who truly have medical problems that cause weight gain, but i have seen so many people who are obese and blame everyone and everything but them selves, if you eat junk and do not exercise you will gain weight. we need to take responsibility for our own actions. it's not my mothers fault that i do what i do nor is it my father or the government or some add on TV. if i eat junk it's my fault, if i choose not to exercise then it is my fault. we have a choice. and if we choose to eat unhealthy food we have to be responsible for the out come!! just my opinion!

I don't think most people want to be pitied, so you shouldn't do that. It's condescending.
For a lot of people, food is an addiction. It's a very easy one to fall into, as food is used for comfort a lot in our society. To people who don't have this addiction, it seems very easy just to call up a gym and start buying vegetables. To those with the addiction, that's really, really not the problem. The problem is learning to live without food as a crutch while still eating food to live. It's like if cigarettes, in moderation, were necessary to live. It wouldn't be easy for a pack-a-day person to get down to just three cigarettes. The best method to get over all addictions is cold turkey, and you can't just quit eating, because that's a whole other eating disorder. So, please, don't pity fat people, but have some understanding of the incredible difficulties they face.

Who says fat people should be pitied? Either you have a guilty conscience which you need to get over yourself, or you're easily susceptible to the opinions of others, in which case learning some independence and assertiveness would go a long way.

Most of the fat folk I know are emotional eaters. Something bothers them and they throw food at the problem by way of their mouths, throat, and stomachs.
Humans have a hard time facing hard issues like heartache, lonliness, being disrespected, and the like. It's perfectly human to take the easy way out, too. Eating is the easy way out for most fat folk. I'm not talking about fat folk with medical conditions that cause them to be obese, I'm talking about fat folk who would rather eat to cover up an emotion than to stand up and face the emotion bothering them.

No! They can put down the cheeseburger and take a walk! A majority of the obese are overweight because of lack of exercise, not because of heredity or health issues. The only hereditary problem they have is watching Mom and Dad park their fat asses on the couch and eat a bag of potato chips and then mimic that action!

Alot of people who are compulsive overeaters were also abused as a child. Same with Annorexics and Bulimics. In fact there is now a strong link between Bulimics who overeat and purge and compulsive overeaters who do the samething and do not purge. I had a friend who needed to get professional help because she would go on binges to fill voids she didn't even subconciously know were there. She got help and is continuuing to get help because it really is not as easy to say no as one might think.

Because they have to live in a world with people like you that ask asinine questions. Pleazzzz. I don't think any "fat" person goes around begging for pity, they just try their hardest to avoid people like you and some of these other answerers who look down on them for their physical appearance.
"Oh please pity me you thin person, I am so lowly and I need your mercy oh beautiful one. Forgive me for taking up more space than you on the planet."

I don't know that anyone who is overweight would chose it. and I don't think most want anyones pity, they just want to be treated with civility and respect like everyone else...also, I am not hearing overweight people blaming society, alot of it is heredity, psychological, etc...stop painting all overweight people with the same brush...your observations are very subjective, biased, and not very accurate...that isn't to say that overweight people couldn't do things to get to and maintain a healthy weight...(most can) so I agree with you on that point...why should they be pitied, you ask. well, I would say, just like anyone with a problem they should be given empathy, treated with respect and dignity just like anyone...simply because it is the right, ethical, kind thing to do...

People come in all different shapes and sizes so you shouldn't be judging someone just because they're overweight.....You think that the look now is to be skinny and have the "perfect body"....hate to break it to you but NOBODY is perfect or ever will be so you should stop judging a book by its cover

it is hard to say because there are some people who choose to be like that. other are fat because of medical condition. also some of them may have emotion problem. thus, to help them feel less stree they use food as a source to distract their emotion. so it is hard to say.
