There are several options: go to Yahoo! (your page) then activate your RSS Feeds. These are great because you can check on whatever you want, like innovative technology, news, sports, weather, local coverage, etc. Then you can do like some other responders have advised; listen to the radio and watch the news. But the best way to get the dish on anything is to talk to people of all age groups. You'd be surprised by how much teenagers know about technological advances. People in their middle ages may know more about the medical front, etc. Talking to people is a great news source.

Answer the telephone-watch television - listen to the radio-turn on your computer and catch the news and weather OR just go to yahoo questions and answers. The last one is more fun. Flu epidemic-if you see any birds flying over- duck The wind got up yesterday but it came back down today The rain poured down worse then any cats and dogs They said no hell was reported as being sighted. The Funel flew around for awhile though. That is old news today was fairly nice and sunny here .on the east.coast. There is always a chance for more rain tomorrow.
