Two words: Human nature.

We're curious animals by nature. We're intrigued by the mysterious, the unknown, the unexplainable, the morbid. It's no surprise that death falls under all of these.

Because there's a morbid curiosity that everybody has, like when people poke dead animals with sticks.

I think it's a way to deal with our own mortality and the fact that we will all die someday.
