You should definitely look over your shoulder.

I just passed my test in August, and was the last of all my friends, so here was their (and my) advice. (by the way, I passed both my written and driving exam on the first time)

1. When signaling, look in your rear view mirror to check traffic behind you, the look over your shoulder (right if you're making right, left if you're making a left), then change lanes. If you don't look over your shoulder, it will be an immediate fail or a huge loss of points.

2. When making a right turn, get as close to the curb as possible.

3. When parallel parking, line the passengers side window to the car in front of you when you will be parked, then back up making your car move closer to the curb until it reaches the curb, then put it in drive and drive the car into the parking spot by moving to the right.

4. Try to not take your test at sunset or nighttime, therefore you will be able to see a lot clearer (sunset throws off the lines on the street).

5. Go TEN mph lower than the speed limit, trust me.

6. When make a turn, look the way you're turning, then the opposite way, then the way you're turning again, then turn.

Good luck!
