I'm sure this question has been asked before. But I am really curious. It's right there within easy reach, it can make you look at least a little more intelligent so why not use it?
I know about typo's and there are some words that spell check won't catch like "their" and "there", but jeez.

I think there are at least several reasons.

One is that there are a lot of kids using this site and to them it is cool to not use spell check, to use "original" and "invented" spellings. So they don't want to use spell check anyway.

Another is that there are a lot of people here who may not be very computer literate and they may not even realize what the spell check button does - my brother was one of those.

A third reason is that many users of this site do not speak English well, and if your spelling is not at least close to being correct, the spell check button offers many suggestions that have nothing to do with the word you want, and so the options may be confusing to them.

Sometimes we just forget. I have done it more than once, and probably will again. I usually catch it before I click "Submit" but not always.

Quite often I have found that the spell check does not work. The little circular arrows appear but they just go on and on and don't pick up the errors.

Then, of course there are those who really don't care if they have spelling errors and won't use the spell check anyway.

Just a few thoughts on the issue.

I do most of the time. When I give a quick response like this I often fore go the spell check as I have a degree of confidence in my ability to spell.

Sometimes it's just typos, but I think the most common reason is people often misuse they're/their/there and similar in blissful ignorance.

As for your example? That's just how idiots who spend their entire time in English class sending text messages end up talking. I despair also :-)

I really wish Yahoo would change their code so that when "Preview" is clicked, it automatically goes to spell check. Geez that would be great.

In all honesty I am guilty of it sometimes and I look back and go WTF? I am an excellent speller. Why do I have these mistakes? It could be from those of us answering tons of questions a day and you start to type really fast.
