I am thinking of a career change. Going back to school and becoming a nurse. Not sure if it is a good fit though. Anyone out there with any advice. I do realize that it will take some time but i am willing to stick it out.

Here's what you need to ask yourself:
1. are you good with science? nurses need to know biology, chemistry and pharmacology
2. are you good with people who are angry, crying, upset? Nurses deal with these people every day
3. do you enjoy doing something different every day? can you handle not having control over the pace of your workday ? it can go from boring to way too busy in a matter of minutes
4. do you want to help people? sure the money is good, and you can be a nurse with two years of schooling (or one year to be an LPN), but you won't last 3 years if you aren't in it to help others.
I've been a nurse for 25 years, and I've loved it, hated it and everything in between. But I answered yes to the those 4 questions every day. For more information go the American Nurses Association website.
Good luck!

You have to really want to help people, even ones that sat they don't want your help. You can be an LPN (2 year course), or an RN (3-4 years depending if you get a bachelors degree or not) pays more and has more options. Once you graduate, you can work in a clinic, hospital or nursing home, depending on what you like and what kind of hours you work. If you work night or weekends, you usually get a little bit more. you can also work travelling, which means you can work assignements anywhere in the country and they usually pay for your room and board plus salasry and bonus for completion!
Keep in mind that the baby boomers are starting to retire and will be for the next 20 years. With that in mind, they will not only be vacating jobs, but they will also need more medical and nursing care, which translates to you having much job security for the next 20 years. The number of people replacing the baby boomers is much lower, so with supply and demand, you should see a good salary as the demand out paces the supply during this time.
Good luck!

I'm also going back to school for that. You should consider how much science you can deal with. You need to take several sciences, including chemistry, just for the prerequisites before even applying for nursing school.

After that, think about how much you're going to like dealing with sick people and constantly dealing with people with major problems or who are belligerant, on drugs, or dying.

If you're still interested, nursing is pretty much a guaranteed job after school - this is only in reference to registered nurses (RN). Nurses make good money, the opportunities for overtime are good, and there are several places with severe nurse shortages who will pay exorbitant amounts if you're willing to go work there (such as California).

I went to nursing school for 2 years and decided that Nursing just ain't for me. Those people are NUTS.

But having said that, I know alot of people that have been nurses for many years and done quite well with it. Good Luck if that is what you want to do.

I would go to your local hospitals and clinics see if you can shadow a nurse for a couple if days. See what it is like. Or be a volunteer for a couple days at both locations.

Nurses do make great incomes
you have be patient
and OK with sick people, blood, and other body fluids

I could never do it, someone who was sick and coughed or got sick all over the floor i would just go home. I am not mentally able to be around sick people or blood. i hate to say that , but its not for every one.

wish you the best of luck

Think it's a scam? Read this (from the website): "We assure you that this is not a scam! Companies need consumers to try and review products, services, and websites and are willing to pay money to have them do so. Most of the time you're asked to do this without any compensation, what we do is take the money companies give us for YOUR participation, and give you back up to 75% of it!"
