I would actually suggest a Zen Vision M. It is by Creative and I own it. It works great if not better than the ipod. there are few accessories for it, so you have to buy them online. One bad thing about the Zen is that the screen scratches EXTREMELY easily so if you just get a lcd screen protector then there is no problem there.
The Zen cannot play songs bought from itunes. this is because itunes sells protected songs, and the Zen cannot read m4ps. The Zen also cannot read m4as. If you have a cd and want to rip songs from it onto the Zen, you must open windows media player and go to rip cd.
The Zen uses Windows Media Player for synchronizing and file transfer. When you purchase a Zen it comes with a disc that has a file for it if you do not have it already. Zens are not very popular because Creative is not a very popular brand for electronics. Ipod and Zens are from very popular companies, so they are not as known.

Well, it depends on what you want, to be able to watch movies or have more songs.
video is more expensive, but you can watch movies.
I have a zune, and it holds 4000 songs, unlike a nano that holds 2000 and it was like $189. So, it depends on what you are looking for. But zunes are very good.

I have the Ipod Video and it is pretty user friendly. My brother got the Zune for Xmas and it was a little harder to set up.

You should get a zune because it has a bigger screen and even though there aren't many accessories for it . It will soon have more stuff added to the music store and it might even grow larger than the i tunes website.
