I have a new tower from Outpost.com and it is fine with my computer.
I need to know what to do with an empty tower--would someone buy it or do I trash it?(it is a Dell)--it was brand new.

Just asking, pakratts--but what can you do with the service tag number?

So you bought a new system instead of replacing the motherboard . The most common mistake people make. If you know anything about the inner workings of a system, you could have done it yourself ( replace the board) for less than $100. All you would of had to do is find a suitable replacement.

What is the model and service tag number and I can tell you more. Even if you sold it on Ebay, there is some money in it, not worth trashing, because some people will repair their systems and not buy new.

i'm very sorry to pay attention approximately this. It handed off to me as quickly as. The complicated disk drives could be salvageable, yet there is no assure. in case you have yet another working workstation, you are able to attempt quickly setting up the complicated force in it. With maximum complicated drives you will could desire to set the jumper placing to "Slave" if it replaced into your generic complicated force. on the different hand, you ought to purchase a USB exterior complicated force adapter (approximately $20 to $40) and notice in case you are able to retrieve you data to a diverse workstation with it. If neither paintings, then the complicated force is probable fried besides and the suggestions is lost. different than thoroughly unplugging each and every thing in the time of a hurricane, there is particularly no longer plenty which you're able to do to guard a working laptop or workstation from a lightening strike. Surge suppressors and UPS (uninteruptable potential furnish) structures are merely insufficient for that form of voltage. this is one reason that's considered necessary make backup copies, the two on CDs, DVDs, tape or floppies, of those data which you particularly desire to maintain. regrettably, it many times takes a topic inclusive of this to realize that magnitude. in case you have a property proprietors insurance insurance, be useful to assessment it out to make certain if the workstation and different digital are coated.

Why not give it away through Craig's list or through Freecycle. There is always someone around who can use it and save it from ending up in a trash incinerator.
