Ok, I am for real with this, and cannot find an answer anywhere on the web. Guess I do not know where to look. But, here it is.. I was sent an email by someone I consider a friend, and see that he sent it to a few people at the same time. I notice a couple of the addys he listed have a yellow smiley, showing they have instant messenger. There is not a smiley next to my name, however, even though I have IM.
Does the lack of a smiley showing my IM mean I am not on his messenger list? Or is this something that doesnt show because of some preference I chose? I notice some of the other contacts he sent this joke to have, some do not have, the IM symbol. Hope I make sense explaining this. Thanks.

Well usually a "lit up" smiley means that the person is online. And a dim "gray" smiley means that the person is currently not connected to the internet.

Don't know why YOUR smiley didn't light up, maybe you can't see your own light up. Maybe only others can.
