I would think race shouldn't matter but I think more important than that is how much we think we have in common with the person. For example if you were a window washer and you knew of another window washer that became very successful you will naturally see some connection to yourself that goes beyond race.
So I think race should not make a difference although people mean ethnicity when they say race. Race is really genetic but ethnicity is really the group of people you most relate to, so it is likely that you relate and admire people of your same 'race' because you share more culturally and socially but it is not fixed in stone.
A black person growing up in an Asian culture would likely have Asian values and admire Asian heroes more so than typical 'black' heroes.
So in a way it matters and in a way it doesn't

Good question!
Some times I guess it does matter.....Richard Pryor.
When he first hit the comedy scene, he was black and hysterical!
He had a flavor of funny that white America had never heard, and to this very day you can catch glimpses of him in a lot of young talent like Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx, Dave Chapelle and more!
I loved him and it was a real challenge to admit it if you were white back then! I felt a sense of being accepting of other races by being bold and saying how funny he was and 'sticking up for' the fact that he wasn't a white comedian but black and much funnier!
I admired Richard for his ability to get us to laugh at his honesty and his outrageous view points! Like when his wife left him...
"better take the dog, cause I ain't gonna feed the m***er f***er!"
I laughed so hard and I still repeat a lot of those bits he did. So, I guess in a way it does matter.

No, it doesn't matter at all. I admire someone for what they have accomplished, for their talent, intelligence or other good qualities... I don't care what color their skin is, and to be honest with you, as far as I'm concerned, when it comes to people, there's only one race: the HUMAN race.

It surely does not. The point that you felt like admiring a person of a different race indicates that beauty transcends all race and color.
