When changing your oil, without knowing capacity, good rule of thumb is 3.5 qts for 4 cyl, 4 qts for 6 cyl, 4.5 qts for 8 cyl as an initial fill, start it to pressure check the filter, then top it off to the full mark on your dipstick (remembering that the sectioned area of your dipstick is 1 qt).

There are a few vehicles that will use less oil than the above amounts, but they are rare and you can always drain small amounts after the pressure check, better not to be above the full mark.
