I am currently on birth control and recently had protected sex with my boyfriend. This was approximately 12 days after the start of my last period. Recently my breast are sore and swollen, I have no other signs of pregnancy. My next period is due on the 16th of January. Can I be pregnant?

It's possible you could be pregnant. Birth control isn't 100% effective. But the sore breasts could be a side effect of your birth control as well. Wait and see if you have your period normally. If you still worry it wont hurt to buy an over the counter pregnancy test. It will help your peace of mind. Good Luck

It's always possible, but not likely. From the sounds of it you're a little late for the "morning after pill", so the only thing you can really do at this point is wait until your next period is due. The worst thing you can do is stress which will just delay your period and make you worry even more. If it makes you feel any better, I went through a similar scare in high school many years ago. I went nuts printing out all the info I could get my hands on what to expect if you're pregnant. Some of my "symptoms" were in my head. All of a sudden I was like..."my breasts do kind of look a little bigger, and they are a little tender." The fact is, it's not unusual to have tender breasts any time of the month. So don't get worked up over all this, you're most likely ok. You can always buy a home pregnancy test to ease your mind and if it turns out to be negative and you're still uneasy, wait until around the 16th. No signs of your period at that point, I'd go see your doctor. I missed my period for 4 months. Baby? No. Stress? Oh, yes. Just remember, there's nothing you can do to change whatever may or may not have happened. I know it's hard, but try and relax - either way, everything's going to be okay. Goodluck and I hope everything works out for the best. :)

Pregnancy is not the only thing that can make your breasts sore. Sometimes even on the pill this can happen since the pill fakes your body into believing you already are pregnant so you dont drop eggs. (This is why you go off them for a week so you can have a period) Breast tenderness can be caused by starting your period, pregnancy, hormonal changes based on your age, stress, even cancer. Everything affects your hormones and when your hormones are affected then your breasts get sore. If you are really worried you can take a test privately and fairly cheaply. As you said you arent due to start your period until Jan 16 so it would be a little early for that kind of sign or even for a test. I would wait until then just to save money. The more you stress the more likely your period will be late. Let it off your mind until your period is missing then test it is the only way to be sure and if you mind isnt calm then see your doctor....also check your insurance information...there is usually a free 1 800 nurse number for questions to be answered for free.

There is always a small chance, since no birth control is 100% effective. In your case though, since you used protection, I would guess that the breast tenderness was a symptom associated with your normal menstrual cycle. If you don't get your period by the 25th, then it would be reasonable to try a pregnancy test. Try to relax in the meantime, because stress can throw off your cycle.

I think 10 days before your missed period would be too soon to feel any pregnancy symptoms. And since you said you are on birth control, I would say you are not pregnant.

There's always a chance of pregnancy even with protection. Your breasts are probably sore because you are about to start your period.

I wouldnt worry about it. My boobs are swollen right now and hurting and my period is due on the 15th. This is all normal and happens every month for a lot. Maybe it's just the start for you.
