Chapter 41

1) And thus it is written, darkness moved upon the face of the deep, and then Gayness did arise.

2) And lo, upon the rising of Gayness, even then did Fabulousity arise, to be followed by the twin bride's maidens of mercy, Colour-coded Accessories and Real Estate.

3) Verily, I say unto ye, except you become as Fabulous and as alert to heavenly Location! Location! Location as those having true Gaynesss!

4) Yea, I say unto thee again, if ye tarry not among those with everlasting Gayness, and know not their secrets of renovation and design, then surely shalt thou forever dwell in the land of the mediocre livingroom ensembles and the desert of dumpy furniture.

5) But if thy Gayness is raised high, for all to see, surely will I bless they and all thy generations, and thy housekeeper Milagro and thy champion roses and thy exterior home lighting system forever and ever, Amen.

In the beginning.

Seriously, it's ALWAYS been around as long as humans have walked upright...maybe even before that.

Many other animal species have been observed to have examples of homosexual relationships among individual couples as well.

It's no longer listed as a "disorder" according to the APA as they have removed it from their books as a viable diagnoses and have made public a statement that all other medical fields cease using the ICD-9 diagnoses code for "homosexuality" as it is perfectly NORMAL, NATURAL AND HEALTHY.

It's simply different than heterosexuality. Just like having brown eyes is different than having blue eyes or being left handed is different than being right handed. It causes no harm to the "self" or others, it's not a disorder or a disease.
It's not even actually a sin, if some would bother to actually notice that there was never even a word for it in the original texts of the Bible and therefore any subsequent translations have simply MADE IT UP...and all after 1800 when the word itself was INVENTED!

I just shake my head and laugh at those who will go out of their way to find any excuse to hate what is simply different than themselves.

It's been around forever. The modern gay rights movement is often considered to have kick-started in june of 1969 with the Stonewall riots, but....there was definitely work being done before that. Mattachine Society was started in the 50's, if I'm not mistaken, so...yeah. As for the modern awareness of queer people, specifically in the media, that's probably mostly in the 90's. HIV entered this country through the gay population, so they were hit first and hit hardest. In raising awareness and lobbying for someone to do SOMETHING for the disease, it also raised awareness of other gay issues.

It rises and falls according to the attitudes of the times. I read somewhere it was accepted in ancient Greece, or maybe Rome.
But 'gayness' as a whole is bit too generalized.

Thousands of years ago. Homosexual relations were quite common (and documented) in Greek and Roman culture, and weren't considered 'out of the norm'. In fact, there was no distinction of 'heterosexual' or 'homosexual' back then.

Homosexual behavior has been observed in nature quite often, and one can easily assume that this did not start recently.

since the beginning of time. it's just that there wasn't any term to it before. it seems that also in the ancient times, men who likes men are a normal think in society.

Way back in the ancient civilizations. Homosexuality was pretty much routine for the ancient Greeks.

It's been around since the beginning of our race -- it's even mentioned in the Bible which was written over 1500 years ago.

I think it was when Barbra Streisand first performed for the Romans, though I might be wrong...

"Happy days are here again, the sky above is queer again...."
