Control Variable: what you would expect to happe under normal circumstance; the standard for comparison.

Please help!

Your definition of control variable is not right. You are confusing it with baseline or control group. The control group of fish would be those at natural or room temperature.

You would attempt to keep all other variables constant, so there are infinite answers, but some big ones would be:

1) food fed the fish
2) age of the fish (use the same one)
3) chemical composition of the water (use the same water, not different bowls)

Eric's definition of control is right and the respiration rate rises in hotter temperatures and dereases in cooler temperatures.

Your control would be room temperature.
