How can the U.S. claim their removal of Saddam justice because of his mass killing of Kurds a little less than two decades ago when the United States supported Saddam's coming into power, didn't do anything aobut it while it was happening and only acts on it when they have something to gain?

Becasue 20 years ago, Saddam was fighting against Iran, who hated and still hates the United States. When he invaded Kuwait, though, Saddam demonstrated that he would no longer follow the US lead. Saddam was tried and found guilty for his crimes. The US position 20 years doesn't make his mass murder anymore right.

It is untrue that the US acted in its own best interests: the US supply of oil was fairly dependable at low cost, wich is why the Iraq War is an anamoly in standard US foreign policy: the US had nothing to gain by invading, and any sensible President would recognize that the US is ot capable of solving all the evils the world faces. Countries generally do act in their own best interest, since if they didn't, they would cease to exist as a state. This si the reason why none of the 1st world countries will help end fighting in Darfur: there is nothing to gain and a lot to lose. That, of course, is a topic for another day.

Saddam alive had outlived his usefulness to US and Israeli policy, and killing him served their agenda because the event could be used towards dividing Shias and Sunnis and having them kill each other and thus continue to weaken themselves...it is truly sad but they have been fairly successful in their diabolical agenda.
