When I first bought the car it was used and the airbag light kept going on, I was worried about this problem so I took it back to the dealers autorepair shop and they replaced some relay or something, but now it came back on. It flashes when I start it and either stays flashing or stays on the whole drive...is there anything I can do without having to take it to the dealer or autoshop? thanks

Take it to a ford dealership and have them remove the code...they have to hook it up to a machine that for the most part only dealerships have access to. call ahead to find out what they will charge. i work at a ford dealership and asked one of my techs what they charge for this and he said if they were in for something else (oil change, tire rotation) they would do it for free...or else they would charge a half hour labor if it was the only thing (around $45).

This is the car's only means of communicating to you that there is a problem with the circuit.
If you have a flat tire, it is obvious, and you change the tire.
There is nothing obvious to the driver about a faulty circuit. That is why there is a "tattle-tale" light to warn you.
When the car is started, the computer runs a series of self tests (Anti-lock brakes, Air Bag System, Engine Components etc.) to which it already knows the correct answers.
If the results of the tests are outside the known values, it will turn on a warning light, and in this instance it is the SRS light.
The system is most likely disabled by the computer, and the light is your cue to take it in for repairs.
Your best options are --
1) Take it to the Ford dealer for diagnosis and repair.
2) Take it to a QUALITY body shop for diagnosis and repair.
3) Take it back to the car lot where you bought it and demand that the repair be made correctly.

Happy motoring

I have a Ford Taurus and the check engine light stays on. My co worker has a 1998 Ford Explorer and her oil light stays on. My mom has a 1992 Ford Taurus and her brake light stays on. I think that is just something that Ford's do.

Yes, the airbag light is something only the dealer can turn off. If you use an OBDII code reader, it wont read the code. You have to take it to a dealer.

Check out some of the Ford Forums online... there are always people who like to modify their vehicles and have the "insider scoop" on the best places to find after-market items... they also have sections where people part out vehicles and you might find some that way!

Turn the light off, if that doesn't work, unhook u'r battery cables and hook them back up, my pick-up brake light stays on until I do this. Good luck.

crash your ford into a brick wall and make the air bag deploy , then you wont have to worry about it anymore
