I'm not sure if it's just a rumor, but I've heard that adult dogs who are unspayed and have never mated are at a higher chance for getting uterine/breast/testicular cancer than dogs who are unspayed who have mated before. Is this true or just a myth?

And yes, I know that adult dogs who are unspayed are at a higher risk for reproductive cancer than pups who get spayed early.

Maybe I worded it confusingly, but I'm already aware that dogs who are unspayed are at a higher risk. What I wanted to know is if adult dogs (ages 3+) who are unspayed yet have never mated and carried pups are at a higher risk of cancer than dogs who are unspayed but HAVE mated and had pups. ^^;

Dogs that do no get neutered are more likely to get prostate and testicular cancer. I'm sure this goes for spaying as well.

I will tell you that I have had vets tell me that there is higher incidence of these types of cancer in the situation that you mention.
The reason given to me is that it has to do with the hormones that go through their systems every 6 months.
