i think that by showing us the tank with the body of Angier the director wanted us to understand that Angier had made a clone of himself that was still alive

I think the clone is alive to, because why else would they show it. I didn't like how they killed him but it was a good movie. So yea I think the clone is alive.

The clones were all dead, as was the original Angier. Showing the "man in the box" was a way to magnify the actions of Angier and what he was willing to do in order to get his revenge on Borden.
