I know this does not apply to everyone but why do we so easily block any reference to forgiveness or mercy to a homeless hungry person, we are not God and cannot judge this person. Most can so easily walk by this person, knowing they are cold, wet, hungry, probably in pain from lack of medical attention. Yes, there are many who are on the street running a con to make money, or a con to buy drugs.
But there are people who despite everything in thier power have fallen to the bottom.
What of these people.
We do not judge a wet, hungry animal, there is only pity.

So why do we now put ourselves above God and decide these people are not worth having a roof over their heads, food, medical attention?
If you are going to say that they don't want it, I will only half believe you, I am sure they would like food at least.
Many are mentally ill and cannot decide for themselves. The cost is too high so mental housing has been closed except for a few.

The reason that dogs have more value than humans is that, in general, animals are better people than humans are.

These are totally different things in my view. Dogs are not placed above humans at all. People may help a dog much as they would help a child, seen as an innocent or a victim. There are many reasons why people walk past or ignore street people. It is perceived that they are there because of their own doing and unfortunately this is often true. The other problem is that there are many and people realize they can't help them all. I have heard more than once about street people who have done things such as after getting a donation, follow the person for miles telling them they need more, etc... or taking the money they claimed to need "for the bus" or "for a cup of coffee" and walking across the street, adding it to the other money collected, right to the skanky dealer on the corner. Unfortunately it is common and the "good citizens" have become very cynical about helping. Perhaps instead of excusing the closing of mental health facilities and placing the onus on the citizens, we should push for more systemic help in resolving these issues... work toward getting more housing, education, rehab and jobs for these people. Make a call to your local politician.

We don't. Dogs are euthanized at the tune of about 5 million per year.

And people have the ability to do something about their problems where as dogs usually do not.

In general people have power over dogs, if dogs had power over people (in mental/thinking capacity that is )...would we still have the same attitude about dogs ....I think not .....it's that dogs and the like do not have this capacity to think and all that entails ...
