I have been doing lots of research lately and every single site says you need a 10 gallon tank for a Goldfish to live.
I have ONE Pearlscale Goldfish (still growing) in a 2 gallon hexagon tank.
But I have read that you will need a gallon per inch of fish
Right now my fish is only about 1.4 inch long (not measuring the tail) and about 1.8 (measuring the tail) estimate.
So is this true that you only need one gallon of fish per inch for a goldfish?
Also,
If you do say that I need a 10 gallon tank. What could I do to make my fish live as long as it can in a 2 Gallon tank? like change the water more often or what?

Tyler,
In my experience,I've never found a more difficult fish to care for,
in as far as keeping the tank clean, reguardless of filtration system
that you have in place.
If you have one goldfish inside a 2 gal. tank, the fish may grow a
bit more, but,I don't think that it will outgrow the tank.Carp usually
grow to the size of their environment.
I'd suggest an air pump w/ an air stone to provide a source of
O-2,especially during the warmer months.
Resign yourself to having to clean it's tank once per week.

Yes, ideally, you should allow at least ten gallons per goldfish to allow them to grow to their full potential. The one gallon per inch of fish you've read about only applies to tropical fish.

Your goldfish will live in a two-gallon hexagonal tank, but it definitely will be stunted, and it will not grow any larger should you decide to upgrade your tank in the future. You will have to change the water (at the very least) once every week.

A pearlscale goldfish is a very nice goldfish though. I suggest you consider the upgrade. You can find ten-gallon goldfish tanks on sale for as low as $30 at PetSmart or Wal-Mart.

The one inch per square is a general rule of thumb, and is meant to make sure the fish are not crowded. It is best to have at least a 10 gallon tank for goldfish because they are growing fish and grow according to the size of your tank. It is best also if you are going to add more fish to your tank.

Goldfish need 10 Gallons PER FISH!

If they are still small you can go till you can get a larger tank, but you must do frequent water changes.

a hex has not much room for a goldfish to swim.
a fish will only grow as much room as they have.. please go get your goldfish a 10 Gal tank- and good filtration

well the goldfish already outgrew that tank. your best bet for keeping the fish much longer would be to buy a bigger tank. there is no way to keep a fish healthy in a tiny tank.

I have always heard that you have to have atleast one gallon per inch. But htta doesn't necessarily mean that your fish will die it just want get bigger unless it is in a bigger tank.
