Usually, Routers will come with the software. Install the software before even touching any of the hardware, UNLESS your guide says otherwise. I haven't seen a wireless USB adapter that wants you to plug it in before installing.
The router may have a CD too; it will probably say on the router or in the manual which to do first. The CD will probably guide you through the install.

it's as easy as a dvd player, just lay everything out, and take your time.
You can do this, man.
It should only take a couple of hours, including frequent breaks.
Hey even if it takes two days, at least you'll have learned something for YA.
