How many times playing as a child were you told to be careful because someone will lose an eye or something similar?....i.e playing conkers or climbing trees....what threats were people given to be good?

hmmm, nice factual answers but was aimng for people to give stories of threats given to them by parents as a child to make them behave themselves, not for historical information...

Lots of people have...

David Bowie (the musician) got stabbed in the eye with a pencil in a school yard fight (hence the one dead blue eye) and then years later (recently actually) some as*shole chucked a beer bottle at him onstage and almost took out the other one.

There you go... Lightning does sometimes strike twice!

Well the closest personal experience I have is a scar over my right eyebrow. My brother and I were fighting and he hit me in the eye with a can of hairspray. I had to get 5 stitches and lost the sight in my eye for about a week... That's how hard he hit me.

My mother warned us THOUSANDS of times not to mess around or someone will lose an eye. It's almost true with me... Thanks Gawd it didn't happen but I have to keep my eyebrows high arched and thin because of it!

No, but I nearly did. When I was eight, my older brother threw a firework at my face, it exploded infront of my right eye. All I have to remember it now is a tiny scar on my eyebrow. But, ho! ho! didn`t my brother get an ear-full from my mother!! I remember that he was sent to bed and I was allowed to stay downstairs on the settee until my mother went to bed. The very next day he got his own back, I was fool enough to let him give me a ride on his home-made go-kart and he tipped it up and sent me flying , I hit my chin on the kerb. (you should have seen the blood! there was masses of it) You can guess what happened when we got home! I still have that scar, under my chin. By the way, my brother loved me really!

It has happened every now and then. Those are rare instances that make everyone cautious.

Pretty much everything they warned you against as a child was possible. How likely it was to happen, however, is another question.
