Depends on the age and what they are doing to earn allowance. I think I got like $5/week when i was really young like under 10 then I think when i got older like 11 or 12 I made about $10/week but I had to do the dishes and clean my room. When I got to be like 15-16 I was told to get a job if I wanted money. But even though I got allowance my parents pretty much bought me anything and gave me extra money if I went out with friends- damn no wonder they made me get a job! kids are greedy!

I'll say about $25 per week. And it depends on their age as well. Plus it also depends on what chores they may have. If they do an excellent job without any back talk, or aaah mom, or even hesitating on doing their chores, just give them a few extra dollars for their efforts. And if chores are done without anyone telling them what to do reward them with a few more dollars. By doing this reward thing will really teach them responsibility.

I never got an allowance myself, but I heard an "expert" recently say that it should be $1 for every year (if the kid is 10 he'd get $10 per week)

I give my 14 year old daughter 20 dollars a week and 10 dollars a week into her bank account,and my 10 year old gets 10 dollars a week and 10 dollars a week into her bank account.

Well when I would give allowance to my kids I would go by their ages.
When my son was 5 y/o I would give about $10.00 a month, my next child above him (girl) about $15.00 per month and then my oldest daughter I would give between $20.00-$30.00 per month depending on how well she helped with her baby sister and chores.
I know it sounds cheap, but we are on a tight budget and none of them are receiving allowance at this time.
