I definitely think there's a difference between a $300 designer shoe and a $50 department-store version. If I could afford them, I would get them.
Even otherwise, it's okay to splurge now and then. I limit it to 1-2 overbudget things a year. I bought a Michael Kors coat this winter and I absolutely love it. Designer items just have their own caliber.
But if it's a chronic obssession and it's unaffordable... you may want to have a talk about it! If you set a limit for the spendings, it should solve the problem!

If I picked up a pair of shoes and they were $300, i'd put them right back and look for a pair that involves taking that last 0 off to make them more affordable lol
