We didn't play Red Rover (care to elaborate?), but we used to -

a) Make mud pies
b) Follow the Dinner Ladies around and annoy them
c) Play horses, using skipping ropes as 'bridals'
d) What's the time Mr. Wolf?

heres guessing it was just the retards at your school but then every school had their fair share of weird kids.... best game ever was Champ or some call it King... four squares on the floor 1,2,3 and champ, one ball, you had to slam it into each others sq and if you missed it or got it out the sq you was out... aim of course was to work your way to being champ... which i was many many times... if i wasn't think the game would have been crap... thanks for the mem's...sorry wasn't the red rover a bus that took u out on day trips back in the day, remember my aunt talking about a while ago!!!

I haven't heard of Red Rovers, but me and my friends used to play either Football or Cops and Robbers.

Squashed Tomato .... the rules seem now realy random

The caller stood about 10 feet of the players. He would call out each one in turn and tell them how far they could move - they could take midget steps or strides. You gould give a "lampost", where the person laid down, stretched their arms forward, and could move to wherever the tips of their fingertips went. Squashed Tomato meant you had to return to beginning.

Seems a ludicrous game, but we played it for hours

Tag, or rolling down the grass slope, or Piggyback fights, or trying to sneak into an abandoned house next to the sports field by climbing up the drainpipe!
