I was wondering how they can do this. I know how but i was trying to figure out ways around it. How can i delete where i've been if they are tracking it. I dont know if they are or not but is there a way i can find out? The only thing i know to do is go under Internet options to delete files, history, and cookies. Is there any other way to find out if they track this or not and if they do then is there a definate way to delete where you've been?

Plz dont give me answers like "its unethical" and stuff. We know all this at work. But several of us would like to visit our emails and pay our bills online and stuff since we are there so much.

I apreciate your help. Thanks!

But is there a way for me to find out if they are tracking them or not? I remember in high school we could tell b/c a program came up and blocked it.

No. You cannot remove your tracking history records. You canont find out easily weather they tracking you or not.

Usually a tracking appliance...also known as a firewall, is placed in line with the networking equipment and is usually the LAST device through which the traffic flows from the network to the internet. The configuration would look something like this...where the lines are the network cables

Computer
|
Network switch
|
Network Monitor
|
Router
|
Internet.

Implemented correctly, it is not possible to bypass the monitoring

Regardless of what you want to hear about being ethical.....here are the consequences of violating network security at different places.

Work - As an Infrastructure Analyst at my company, anyone found WILLFULLY violating security implementation is subject to IMMEDIATE termination. These rules may be more lax or strict, depending on the company

School - Suspension. OR expultion, And if you are paying tuition...the tuition may be forfeited

Public access - Permanently banned from computer access. Possible legal action.

Feel free to try to find a way around the network monitoring.....at your own risk

Sure, the internet works by communicating between computers. That means your computer sends data over the wires, and the data passes through several computers on the way. To track your websites, and even the content of the websites, any one of the intercepting computers just needs to look at what is being relayed across the wires.

At work, the data from your computer will pass through several computers within the company like routers, firewalls, and so on, and at each location, there is an opportunity to a) track the website you specifically requested and b) monitor the actual data being sent back and forth.

So if you really care about privacy/security, the first step is not to go visiting websites at work or other public places. It still doesn't protect you, but you're definitely flashing a neon sign to be watched at public places.

No you can't tell if you are being tracked. The tracking mechanism is not on your computer. It's on other computers that are in between your computer and the outside internet. Unless you somehow administrator access to server computers/routers/firewalls and all interceptors, you won't know.

If your company is monitoring your Internet usage there is no way for you to delete the information. It is not stored on your computer, it will be stored on a server in the server room or data center.

The way that these systems work is all network traffic that goes to the Internet is routed through a proxy server. This proxy server looks at each Internet request and depending on how it's configured can block access to the site, redirect you to another site, or passively log the request and allow you to view the site.

Because all the logs are stored on the server you as an employee who is not a systems administrator for the company will not have access to the server.

At most companies altering a servers logs is typically grounds for termination of employment.

Most likely it doesn't matter where you go or what you do on networked computers as everything is logged. Some companies even have key loggers installed which automatically generate text logs of everything you type (which have corresponding website URL's) and are sent to the boss at preset times.

Companies that especially handle delicate material will have all security options. Once you are employed, you most likely signed an agreement indicating you would only use computers for work.

I don't do anything on work puters, even though they temp you.

So if you don't want anyone prying into your emails or accounts, just do not do it.

In addition to clearing cookies, you could try using anonymizer...but even then, if its company-stuff, they track it...and they dont have to tell you they track it
