Heard of it--yes. Reccomend it--no.

Babies should be given nothing excpet breastmilk or formula until 6 months.

Have you took your baby to the doctor?
Could he have reflux? One of the symptoms is colicky behavior.

IF so changing formulas or eliminating certian foods from the mothers diet (for breastfed babaies) can help?

If you suspect or have been told that your baby has colic, you may want to consider the possibility that your baby may have reflux. This may not be the answer for all colicky babies, but in my experience and based on my conversations with other mothers, reflux is very common and is very often misdiagnosed as colic.

Symptoms

These are some of the more common symptoms of reflux. Your baby may only have some of them, and may have other symptoms that are not listed.
Spitting up frequently
Vomiting
Unexplained crying
Poor sleep; frequent waking
Fighting during feeding
Arching neck or back during feeding
Frequent hiccups
Congestion
Wheezing
Coughing
Hoarseness
Strange odor on breath
Poor weight gain
Frequent choking episodes
Important: There are a couple of common misconceptions about reflux:

First, your baby does not have to be losing weight to have reflux. On the contrary, many reflux babies actually overeat because eating eases the pain.

Second, your baby does not have to be spitting up to have reflux. This is known as "silent reflux" and can actually be harder on your baby because their esophagus is getting burned by the acid on the way up and again when it goes back down. It's also a lot harder to recognize as reflux.

If your baby is exhibiting signs of reflux, you should talk to your pediatrician about it. Be forewarned though that many pediatricians only consider reflux to be a problem if the baby isn't gaining weight properly. Beyond that, many seem to think it's merely a laundry problem for an overreacting parent and will tell you that your baby will grow out of it and send you an your way. Yes, your baby will grow out of it, but if your baby is experiencing pain and discomfort from reflux, there's no reason why he should have to suffer while he's growing out of it! You need to make sure that your doctor understands that your baby is in pain and that you're not complaining about the laundry. And if he still doesn't listen, find another doctor.

From what I have heard is any kind of milk is a no before a year and I would think that goats milk would make it worse. My son had horrible colic and the only thing that worked for him was chamomile tea. Your doctor will probably tell you not to use it but it really works. It doesn't take much just a few ounces a couple times a day or a little bit with every feeding.

No never. If your baby has colic, than I am assuming that the baby is under 3 months of age. Never give a baby anything but breast milk or formula.
There are several lactose free formulas on the market if you are formula feeding, that may help with colic. There is also a great formula that goes a step further called Nutramigem, made by Enfamil. It is pre digested, so it is much easier on baby's tummy and can be great for colic. There are other things that people use for colic such as Gripe Water, which may help, but it did nothing for my baby.
If you are breast feeding, a lot of times the culprit is dairy and you can try cutting that from your diet, that's what I did for a few weeks and it really helped.

I'm not trying to be mean, but this is exactly why I wish more moms breastfed. Breastmilk is the perfect and most gentle food for an infant. Anyway, I don't think goats milk is bad or anything but your baby is way too young to be on milk already. He HAS to be on formula for the first year. I'd say maybe 10 or 11 months would be okay to start switching him, but if you put him on milk this soon, he will miss out on sooo much nutrients that formula has in it. When you do switch to milk, goats milk should be fine. I honestly don't think putting him on milk now is going to help with his tummy. Usually if they are too young, it will do the opposite. He won't be able to handle it well yet. If you do try the goats milk, make sure and buy it from a store so that you know it has been pasturized and that its healthy. I would even suggest getting him organic goats milk because then it won't have any added chemicals and stuff in it.

Yes - if your child has colic there is a belief they may have a milk allergy (like Native American or Asian kids) Goat's milk is different and some children tolerate it better. If there is no history of milk intolerance try some chamomile tea (if there is no ragweed allergy) or a little peppermint tea - both calm excess gas which is widely believed to be the culprit although not yet medically agreed upon. You can also vacuum or walk the child in a stroller as the motion moves the gas and the child calms to sleep. Good Luck!

No, but I switched my baby to soy milk and gave him a little catnip tea (reccomended by many- found in herbal stores). It didn't completely cure his colic, but it made it tolerable. The part that stuck around (crying or straining when he went number 2) was gone completely by the time he was 4 months old.

No..but goat's milk is the same as cow's milk when it comes to babies (from my understanding). Since babies don't have to capability of digesting the protiens in the milk, it is recommended that you don't give it to them until they are one year old. It can cause them to become lactose intollerant. That's one of the reasons why we feed them breastmilk or formula.
