I am looking to get a gun for me and my wife! (For self defence) Where we live in Ohio we need one! We have 2 children and so far we have had 2 people brake in. It is in a 2 week time and I really need a gun that can't kill but hurt for self defence.

My wife is never used a gun before but for me I have fired about 13 rounds on hunting guns but nothing other, but never had one I hope I will not have to use it but just to show it but just it case. It takes 25 mins at least for the police to come! I want to protecked my family and belongings.

What I want to know is what web site is good with amow and arrmer (just in case it gets bad) and a good beginner gun? I would like a handgun for me and my wife and then a long range gun!

Thank you!

First off. your spelling is atrocious, at best.
You need to find out the gun laws for your state. A good home protection gun is a short 12 ga shotgun ( Coachman) Dont have to aim it and it will do the job.
Handguns are not the easiest to get in some states...some you need a good reason ( Self defense is not a good reason) Like in NYC and Washington DC, handguns are illegal.....
Speak with your local police or find a better neighborhood to move to.

Slow down a little bit. There is no such thing as a "beginner" handgun. Here is my suggestion:

1) Call the nearest shooting range and see what they offer in classes. The range I shoot at offers both beginner and advanced handgun classes. Along with concealed carry.

2) Continue going to the range trying out different firearms. Most ranges have a good selection of rental guns for the range.

3) Research forums and read as much as you can.

For a beginner, a revolver is the best bet. Semi autos are very reliable, but at 3 am the last thing you need to worry about is a feed problem when someone's breaking in your house. My personal recommendation is a 4" ruger or smith and wesson .357 magnum. If you find the .357 has too much kick, you can always shoot .38's out of them.

And finally, whatever you decide on, get to the range once a week and practice!!! There is nothing worse then someone buying a gun, loading it up, and never firing it until their life depends on it. If you do that, you're just as likely to shoot yourself as a loved one.

If someone is breaking into your home and all you want to do is hurt, but not kill then consider a Tazer. 25,000 volts hurts like all get out. I know. I got popped once by 25,000 volts. Puts you down on the ground crying for mom ma.

Personally, I would shoot to kill with nothing smaller than a .357 magnum if someone broke in on me or my ride, but some folks can't handle the idea of killing and I appreciate that. I was that way, too, till about the third carjacking attempt. Now it's bang bang, you're dead time.

Some shotgun manufacturers sell rubber pellet shot. It looks like a regular shotgun load, too. You have an incredibly loud noise with the blast and the rubber pellets won't kill if you don't hit anywhere near the head. Man, give me 25,000 volts over a 12 gauge blast of rubber pellets any day. I"m sure the rubber pellets leave a nasty bruise pattern.

If this is the only firearm you are going to own i suggest A S&W two inch in .357 magnum that way you can shoot powered down rounds bur have the luxerey of having more power if you want it Please buy a quality fire arm Ruger and Colt have some also. Now for a long gun i think a 12ga pump is in oreder 870 remmington is a great and come with 7 or 8 rounds buckshot is great stuff be carefull and good luck.

Small caliber weapons can kill, just like a large caliber weapon. One thing you may consider......get a shotgun. I would recommend something like .410 . It doesn't kick hardly, you're wife won't be afraid of it. Now just like any weapon, it can kill.... If you dead set on an hand gun, then a .22 caliber handgun will be good, or a .38 caliber pistol will be good. If you do get a handgun, please keep it out of the kid's reach. I'm sure you're aware of that. You could also go to a gun shop......and talk to the owners of it.....what they recommend. Best of luck to you.

Find an NRA firearms instructor in your area.

First class to take would be "Home Firearms Safety"
Next would be "NRA Basic Pistol"
and after that "Personal Protection in the Home"

I am an NRA certified instructor in these fields. Firearms ownership requires responsibility, knowledge and skill.

There are many less lethal options available including tasers, stun guns and pepper sprays.

I agree that you really need to think this through.

A gun is not a means of defense. It's purpose is to kill.

If you were ever to actually use it, you will be charged with a crime. It will be up to you to prove that it was in self-defense.

You don't have the right to shoot somebody unless that person is trying to kill you.

The popular idea that you can "brandish" a gun for protection is false. Don't buy a pistol unless you are ready to kill someone. My uncle was a tough guy. On more than one occasion, someone pulled a gun on him and within a couple of seconds, he took it away from them. He knew they didn't want to shoot.

Were your break-ins done while you were in the house? If so, what did they do when they found out you were there?

If you are going to shoot someone, you are attempting to kill them.

Get that through your head now; there is no thing as "shooting just to hurt".

For self defense, any handgun of reputable manufacture with a caliber of at least .380 will be suficient. If you aren't going to conceal it, (it will just be for home) I would reccomend a .38 or .357 revolver. They are simple to use, and work everytime.

PS. If you have kids in the house...LOCK IT UP.

I'd strongly suggest you check the NRA website. They have great information regarding safe handling, state and local laws regarding the use and possession of weapons as well as links to other helpful websites. They can also assist you in procuring permits, procedures, etc.

I use a S & W Model 19 Combat edition (.357) and a Mossberg Maverick Model 88 with modified length barrel and a drum loader magazine. Alternating magnum slugs with 0 buckshot. Both are suitable. Just do your research first please. Good luck! :)

The person facing the gun will not know what type of gun it is or the degree of harm it will cause. This is the point of the laws on guns and why they are so serious. 5 years mandatory sentence for unlawful possession of a gun. The offence is to do with the victims perception in believing it is a gun regardless if it is a fake gun or any other type of gun. Your "gun" would still cause extreme fear and harm to the victim.
