One of our renters found a dead insect under their bed and they think it's an armadillo. Now we live in southern Illinois so I highly doubt it can be one. It is only an inch long, but it does look like an armadillo so I was just wondering if anyone knew what it could be? I've searched the internet and I haven't found anything yet. What type of bug or retile could thins thing be??Thanks!

This thing has what looks like a stinger. It could possibly be a stiff tail...not really sure but I know it's not a Roly Poly. It's face is shaped like a mouse with a really pointy nose...hope that helps a little more.

Until you added the details about the
sting-like structure and the pointy face I would have
said pillbug, too. With that additional information
I have no idea what it might be. If you have the
thing, take it to SIU and ask someone in the
Zoology Department what it is.

Real armadillos have been reported a time or two in southern Illinois, but, of course, they are much
larger than one inch, even the young ones.

Pill bugs...I've also heard them called potatoe bugs and rolly polys... Look on any pile of old logs under the bark if you need one.... They are really quite harmless...

Perhaps a sow bug or pill bug, which is not actually an insect, but a terrestrial crustacean.
