I work at CVS in the pharmacy and I am only 16. I was hired by the pharmacist there who is my mom's friend's sister. My mom has tried to call her and tell her that I want to quit but she is always saying that I should quit. I don't know if I should tell her on the phone or in person and I am also scared to tell her.

It is your responsibility to tell the pharmacist you want to quit. Tell her nicely and give two weeks notice so she can hire a replacement. It is best to do so in person. Just be polite and tell her you appreciated the opportunity to work at CVS, but now you want to try a different type of job.

It is always best to leave on good terms. You may need her as a reference for a future job.

this is part of growing up. NO ONE likes to quit their job or give notice. But it is business. It is nothing personal. And it should be done in person. Simply say, "Suzie, thank you for offering me the opportunity to work here, but I need to move on. I am giving you my notice and my last day will be X." You don't need to over explain, apologize, or anything. It would be NOT COOL to make your mother do it. Might as well learn how to now, as you can't ask your mom to do it for you later on in your life. Consider it a life-building skill towards adulthood. If you take on the responsibility of a job and earning money, you must also take the responsibility of giving the employer the courtesy of a notice--in person and not through a 3rd party.

1. Quit carefully because you never kno when you will need the person you are quiting on in the future.

2. Quit with 2 weeks notice minimum and if possible suggest your replacement as quitting always inconveniences your boss.

3. Quit for a good reason based on a good priority and be sure to explain this to your boss. You want them to see that you really did not have a choice and that it would be stupid for you not to quit.

4. When quitting be sure to know what your boss could offer that would make you stay just in case they offer it to you and you decide to change your mind.

If you really really want to leave than try writing out a resignation letter and handing it to her in person. This is the best of both worlds. You've told her in person, therefore you aren't a coward, you've provided her with written documentation that you want to quit, and the letter can do all the talking for you.

Simply say, "I've written a letter of resignation", and then hand it over.

Yes, I agree, you should definitely tell her in person and don't let your mommy do it for you! It's just part of life. It may be uncomfortable, but you'll be happy and relieved once you do it. Just be polite and give notice. Then be on your way!

The right thing to do is to tell her in person. Also, you need to give her a typed letter of resignation, and sign it.
