I want to apply to MIT Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, and Columbia University. Can someone tell me which test should i take that will give me a better end result. Furthermore, which test will get me admission, and what score i need to get in.
Thanks

I would take both. People tend to do better on the SAT than the ACT (e.g. me: my SAT score was equal to about a 28 on the ACT, but when I took the ACT I got a 33), so if they see a good SAT and an even better ACT, they'll view your SAT a bit more highly. If you just take the SAT, they'll look just at that.

These schools are very SAT dependent. Just the ACT will not cut it; SAT or both.

As for score - just work on the highest possible. Don't set goals for yourself until you've actually gone and taken the test.

If you want to get into those schools you will definetly have to take both. Think of it this way. You are competing against 100 people for ten spots. The people who have taken both have two arrows in there quiver, while if you onlt take the SAT you only have one.

Also you have to think about scholarships. There are millions out there but the more testing you have the more chance you have of meeting the requirements of the various scholarships. Taking both could double or triple the number you get. Some people get the all paid ones, but that's like winning the lottery. A few thousand here and few thousand there and a thousand for being born on leap day can add up to some real $$$ that can help out when going to schools like those.

like everyone else said, take both. it's hard to tell which one you'll do better on, and most schools don't prefer one or the other. the sat's one you'll prolllly need to study for, though, whereas the act is really just what you learn in school so you don't need to study as much. but yeah it's hard to tell which is easier for you, so take both.

what score you need depends, really. i'm not as familiar w/ act scores, but you can find a conversion table online or stuff. but you'll prolly need above a 2100/2200 (or the equivalent) at least to get into those schools, unless you have amazing musical or athletic talent.

Take both. Generally students who are better at English do very well on the SAT while those who are better at math or science do better on the ACT. Take both just to be safe. Take them both more than once too. Dispite what many say, your score is very likely to go up quite a bit if you take it more than once.

you need to take both. and you also have to take the SAT IIs.

in the ACT you need to be getting in the 29-36 range.
the SAT you need to be in the 2000 range and higher [in the new SAT]

those schools are really hard and if you want to get in.. u need to be the best.

Good luck!

Both, definitely. Some schools only take one or the other and then you will also be able to see which you did better on...

take both. sometimes local schools just want an ACT, but SATs can help put you in better classes. It can't hurt to take them both.
