I posted what I thought was a serious (ish!) question yesterday and had a very strange reply accusing me of "trolling". As a old git I learned at infant school that trolls were dwarfs that lurked under bridges in old Scandinavia with a view to eating unwary travellers. Can anybody help me here? We did't have much in the forties and fifties, but we certainly didn't eat each other! Serious replies only please, and no trolling!

I have heard the term before, but check out this link,

Describes it better than I can.

Hello Old Git,

I didn't know they were Scandinavian. It sounds a bit like scraping the barrel ummmm cos it sounds like trawling. Perhaps its picking up little hairy people and dragging them down canals to wash them out. That sounds plausible don't you think.

I used to go in a Chat room that contained them apparently, but I didn't know who were the Trolls and who were the Billy goats and goats. I feel that if i had known then I could have been some help. That's life boy, as the mermaid said to the vicar. Sorry if i just offended vicars

he he I just got this

Being a pr ick on the internet because you can. Typically unleashing one or more cynical or sarcastic remarks on an innocent by-stander, because it's the internet and, hey, you can.

My grandson was banned from a few sites for going into Welsh chatrooms and insulting people in Welsh. Of course most of the chatters knew enough Welsh language to tell an insult, but the IPS couldn't. He got a slap around the head from his mamgu (grandmother), for it.

On the internet it means being ugly and insulting verbally, as others have said. I am posting because I want to say Right on it, Gran...smack the little prat again if he needs it!

got me too mate, I'm not quite as old as you but I thought they were Scandinavian, under bridge dwelling, creatures as well. Was your question about bridges at all? Maybe somebody got confused. There's some pretty stupid people about.
