If there was a new country created, how would you rule it?

Question

Say a volcano made a brand new country in the Atlantic ocean - about the size of ireland. This country has since been populated by plants and animals, but no people live there. You lead a group of settlers to found a brand new nation. How would you rule it?

Specifically - would you have socialist elements in your government?

Would you have the death penalty - and what for?

Would you have elections, or make yourself president for life?

Would you persue nuclear weapons?

What would your foreign policy be, and your stance towards other nations?

What would your immigration policy be?

Plus anything else you can think of

Most likely, my government would be setup in a communistic style (in the traditional sense). In this way a small population can cultivate the land and help each other with other necessities. There would have to be a council of leaders to instate this type of government and run things smoothly until the population grows. This however, woul be temporary. It would probably change once there was a high enough population to have a functioning republican democracy. (my assumption would be that the population would have to be 200+) As to the penalty, I do not know where I fall on that one... if we had it it would be only for ers. Once a democracy was established elections would be help every four years so that there is a rotation in office and thus a rotation of ideas. Nuclear weapons would not be pursued but they would be researched so that they could be understood. Our stance towards other nations would have to be decided once we became a functioning country. This is because it is yet to be seen how other countries would deal with us. Immigration will be open with paper work until the population becomes to large, then another plan will have to be put in place. There will, once the country gets established, be socialist health-care and government sponsored research in the sciences.

First off an excellent ecological system must be enforced for health of all. Next, get rid of all the traitors, then make sure that no one can come in to the country from another country and plant their butts their, they must have a round trip ticket and leave in 21 days. No work for anyone but the citizens. You may marry someone from another place but they have to wait 10 years for citizenship and can only visit their own country for 36 days. Or they have to stay there, and re-apply for citizenship. And we can deport them at any time. Also a naturalized citizen after he/she is a citizen may be deported after the 10 year plan if they are found conspiring against the government to change it for their country?I would not be president there should be an appointment based on the existing leadership and then two appointed candidates will run for office by public vote only. Oh yes I would have plenty of weaponry, for if they wanted war, we will accommodate them for sure. Why live where you can't be free from all the foreign influences to change your lives and conquer you world. That is how America was built and look what we have to do here. We are constantly invaded and the politicians are corrupt in every way. They get rich we get poor, they kill us off by starving us or hanging or shooting, or the injection even when they are innocent?
There will be no arrests unless they have proof that the person is guilty, and there will be a mandetory law enforced for the DNA testing. There will be no law suits against government then. And any politician and or government official found guilty of corruption will be tried for treason and they will be hung in front of everyone.
That should detour all thoughts of being corrupt. Harsh? Yes but how else are we going to stop the people from hurting others when they are in such great power?

I would make sure that UK Military trained Officers and RSM's would run the country, making ALL decisions for at least 10 years until the country was more established and on a good foundation.

I am not talking about Military Rule here !

I'm talking about GREAT man-management skills being put to the best use.

I would have a little more socialist elements than the american system.
I would have the death penalty for, murder, rape, and high treason.
I would have elections every 5 years
No to nuclear weapons
I would strive my best to create strong economic relations with the giants china, japan, and india, in addition to the best relations i can achieve with all the nations on earth. and i would pursue peace in all means possible.
I would be very picky on immigration, i don't want the losers from all other countries to meet up in mine.
My state would have police and special forces. but no army.

Oh, so much power . . . and how many minions did you say I had ? (fyi: takes LOTS of taxpayers to afford nukes)
And foreign policy and all that stuff - what's our revenue base ? just lava rock ? And the elections will be about who will arrange lava rock the best ? or death penalty for ugly lava rock work ?
Basis of this humor is - All of that stuff relates to real life economic issues and a lava rock island doesn't have much in the way of resources .

I would round up all the evil communists, slaughter them and burn the carcasses. Radical Islamics too. With no communists or other terrorists in the world, things would be pleasent, peaceful and prosperous.
