I've already chosen a best answer, but the bloody thing says I have to wait 4 hrs.
Anyway, I'd just like to say that I think the comedy of The Marx Brothers was more intelligent than that of three characters who use violence to make people laugh. Basically I feel the comedy of The Three Stooges appeals to a more immature audience with their use of violence toward each other, while The Marx Brothers appealed to a more mature audience with their use of banter and irony.
But that's just my observation. Thanks to all for participating and sharing your views. Especially the 3 Stooges fans.

Now there is a good question for seeking the basis of cultural criticism! Why is some film better than others?
I like the Three Stooges way better than the Marx Brothers. Why?
They are similar in that they contrasting characters (dumb and dumber?) and both involved slap stick.
I think I just like the acting in the Three Stooges, it seemed more plausible to me and much funnier than the Marx Brothers.
