The word "mile" comes from the Roman "mille", which was 1000 paces, a common unit of distance used in the Roman army. A pace was the distance between successive steps with the same foot, which was approximately 5 feet or so in those days. But today a step actually means half a pace, so the answer to the question is, "2000 footsteps per mile".

This could vary depending on the person and the length of the person's step
Normally, for a man a 30 inch step is considered to be normal
There are 5280 feet in a mile
30 inches = 2.5 feet
5280 divided by 2.5 = 2112 steps
A man taking a long stride, say 36 inches then you would have a slightly different answer.

A standard step is about a yard, and a yard is 3 feet, so there are 1760 yards in a mile.

Clearly that depends on the length of your footstep.
Measure the length of your normal pace (in feet) and divide the length of a mile (5280 feet) by your pace to find out how many footsteps it would take for you.

measure how far a footstep is (not the size of your foot, but the size of your stride). then, put 5280 under that number in a fraction. (_ft/stride)/(5280feet/mile) the feet cancel out, so you get strides per mile.

It would depend on the size of the step. But there are 5,280 feet in a mile if that helps.

my foot is about 7in
1mile *(5280ft/1mile)*(12in/1ft)*(1foot-step/7in)= 9050 foot-step
in my case, it will take 9051 foot steps to cover 1 mile
