AHEM!
At the risk of offending the others, they aren't really answering the question. Sure, you have all explained how to compress a video file. But the other part of the question is: Where Is It?

There are some tools that allow you to set & change the place where these files are held. Since you probably haven't used these, the DEFAULT location is:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Recorded TV

Files ending in .dvr-ms are your recorded TV shows. Use the methods of the other answers to save these files to DVD, then delete them. Presto!

I can't burn DVDs on this p.c. so I don't know if this will work but it might be worth a try...open Windows Media Player and hold your mouse pointer over the burn tab and a small downward pointing arrow will appear, click on that and then click on 'more options' in the window that appears click on the burn tab and then in the section marked data discs click on the radio button marked 'convert to' and this should allow you to shrink the files to fit on your disc. Good Luck.

There are some programs that will reformat the video file with a different resolution that would allow you to shrink the video (losing resolution). If it gets small enough it will probably fit.

I think DVD shrink (use the search engine) does just this..

Either a dual layer DVD or if it is a movie you are talking about, get DVDshrink and it will shrink it so it will fit on a single layer DVD-R (or DVD+R)
