You need an antivirus and I would suggest some antispyware, sometimes it is an adware program that tells you you have a trojan and invites you to download some software to remove it that you don't need

For antivirus I would suggest avg from http://free.grisoft.com
Alternatives would be avast from http://www.avast.com or Avira Antivir from http://www.free-av.com

There is also a good free online scanner by kaspersky at http://www.kaspersky.com or trend micro at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

You should only install one antivius application but the online scanners can be used with the others for a bit extra security

For antispyware

Spybot search and destroy http://www.safer-networking.com
Adaware http://www.lavasoft.de
A-squared http://www.emsisoft.com
Spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com
windows dfender http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/default.mspx

All free and I would suggest using all of them.

For cleaning PC and registry I would suggest ccleaner http://www.ccleaner.com Also go through add/remove programs and see if there is anything like toolbars or adbars that you can remove.

Also I would suggest turning off system restore before cleaning viruses/spyware as they can sometimes store themselves along with the system restore information. You can turn it back on once you know for sure your system is clean and set a new restore point

The most obvious answer is you must have caught a virus or trojain. Without being able to see the pop-up this may not be the case but to make sure:

Run a virus scan of your pc

If you need antivirus download:

AVG
or
Avast home edition

Both are free and can be found on this website

You have a virus in your system. Run a virus scan and delete virus. Or get the name of virus, write it down. Go to search and type in that kind of virus. When search is complete delete it by using the right click. Then run another scan on your system. This should take care of your problem.
