What happens if you got a notice to fill out and return within 5 days for jury duty and just ignored it, pretend you never receive it, pretend you were out of town for the pass 2 weeks when it came?

that type of game playing won't turn out the way you want. eventually you will be in trouble for avoidance of your jury summons, it is a court order after all. when people "no show" for jury duty they can be picked up by the sheriff or sued for their failure to follow through on the jury summons.....just comply with the letter and don't try to duck out of it.

Usually, there is an attached notice stating the penalties if you do not return the notice. According to the one I received at the end of December, they're pretty steep.

Also, you have to have proof (receipts, a notarized letter from somebody) that you were out of town, which apparently you can't get. And if it's proved a lie, I believe you can be slapped with a perjury complaint as well.

According to the notice, in my area the penalties are a thousand dollar fine and up to thirty days in jail. I believe that's the norm.

Once you have not returned it, they put out a bench warrant. You have about thirty days to show up voluntarily or they will arrest you.

I suggest you contact the local county office, say you didn't recieve it until recently, and ask for a new copy. Fill it out, turn it in, and remember that you might not be chosen for jury duty. Also, it's not that much of a hardship. You are compensated for your time, although not very well.

The court will assume you did receive it. You should contact them and apologize for not having returned it, then get it filled out as quickly as possible.

You can ignore a summons, but the court won't ignore you. Eventually, sheriffs will turn up to arrest you.

WTF, part of being an American citizen is participating!!! If you don't want to be part of the American experience, I suggest you move someplace where they don't give a **** about their country. Oh wait... That would be America, and that would be YOU...
