No, shrimps are arthropods, a class of animal that includes crustaceans (crabs, lobsters and shrimps among others) chelicerates (spiders, scorpions), myriapods (centipedes) and hexapods (all the insects). Those animals are characterized by the absence of internal bones -- therefore those are all invertebrates -- and the reliance of a exoskeleton, which is simply a very hard outer skin that doubles as a point of attachment for the muscles to act on.

Oh lordy!

NO - you know vertebrates! Fish, reptiles, birds mammals - NOT bugs, even water bugs!

Seriously though we're in the phylum 'chordata' and that means everything with a ... chord - not necessarily a backbone - some seasquirts count within the phylum and yet in adult form they couldnt be any less vertebate-like.

Arthropods like crustaceans (which shrimps belong to) have a nerve thread running along the lower part of their bodies. In a way its upside down.

Shrimps are'nt Vertebrates. Vertebra means bone in the spinal column. And Shrimps don't have bones, instead thay are covered with soft shells.

Vertebraes have skeletons. Shrimps do not. They have a shell on the outside of their body that is hard, called an exoskeleton. Crabs, lobsters and beetles have this neat feature. Humans do not have this because our skeletons are IN our bodies.

Come on now. You've eaten shrimp before. They don't have a spine running down the middle of them. They are invertebrates.

No, shrimps do not have vertebrae (backbone). It's easy to check for yourself, just cut one in half and look.

Same applies to prawns.

Shrimps don't seem to have bones at all.
They have an exoskeleton.
