a walk is after the four balls have been thrown out of the strike zone you can go to first base without hitting.

A walk occurs when the pitcher throws four balls (ball thrown outside of the strikezone which are not swung at) to the batter. Four balls walk a guy, although when baseball first started it sometimes took as many as nine.

I thought I'd answer the question anyway. Either way I get my points.

"In baseball statistics, a base on balls (BB), also called a walk, is credited to a batter and against a pitcher when a batter receives four pitches that the umpire calls balls. It is called a "walk" because the batter is then entitled to walk to first base, or more specifically (as defined in the rules of baseball) he is "entitled to first base without liability to be put out." Any baserunner who is forced advances as well.

Receiving a base on balls does not count as an official at bat for a batter but does count as a plate appearance.[1]

A pitcher can also choose to intentionally walk a batter. This is usually done for the purpose of facing a different batter that the team feels they have a better chance of getting out, or to allow a double play possibility if first base is open with less than two outs.

A hit by pitch is not considered a walk, though the consequences are often the same for both."

A walk is where either 1 of the following happens:
1. The batter gets hit with the ball, or
2. The batter gets 4 balls

*2 points* (4balls to a batter in baseball as long as the four balls come before 3 strikes, but you knew that)
but hey dont give someone 10 points for putting down the longest answer. Simply copying and pasting complex answers to simple questions is ridiculus. You might as well give the 10 points to me.

it is another term for a base on balls. when a pitcher misses the strike zone 4 times on one batter, the batter is awarded 1st base, because he does not have to run the term walk evolved
