not a nutrient, but definitely essential. It's molecular and atomic formula make it one of the best solvents in the universe.
It's essential for life, since (by it's atomic makeup) it easily carries many of the necessary nutrients and minerals living cells need to thrive and reproduce.
Also, as it is widely found in all environments, life has chosen it as the best medium of inter-cellular transportation. It is a universal solvent, and it's atomic structure is easily formed by the gases in our atmosphere (which is why it's so common).

not a nutrient--water has no protein, carbs, fats, minerals, or vitamins (unless enriched).
i think its considered special because its a nearly universal solvent. it is needed in the body to dissolve many substances, and many chemical reactions in the body take place in water.

becasue it will keep you from getting dehydrated and it also removes tonic from the body. It also helps to make the cells better. water is not a nutrient but we cannot live without it, neither can animals.

because without a continious re-supply of water, of which your body is mostly made of, you will die.
