A strike is a pitch that is in the "Strike Zone" (usually across the plate from knees to waist of the batter) or a pitch that is swung at and missed or fouled out of play. A ball is a pitch outside the strikezone that is not swung at. Three strikes and you strike out (you can't strike out on a foul ball) and four balls and you get to take first base (walk).

If you are a new comer to baseball these are the basic things you need to know. There is this thing called a strike zone, its different for every batter because the zone is from the batter's knees to his shoulders. A strike is when the ball lands in the strike zone and a ball is when the pitch lands outside the strike zone. You get three strikes at a bat, and then your out, and four balls to get a walk, which in simple terms means a "free pass" to first base. I hope this was enough info for and if you have and more questions you can email me at polok4lyfe@Yahoo.com

A ball lands outside the strikezone and a strike lands inside the strikezone. If the players swings and misses, it's a strike. A foul is a strike unless there are two strikes already. If a pitcher throws four balls before the batter strikes out or puts the ball into play, the batter walks to first. If first is already occupied, the runner on first moves to second. If the batter is struck with the ball at the plate, he also walks.

A ball is a pitch that is thrown outside of the "strike zone" (the space arround home plate that is ruled to be a strike if the pitch goes through the box) that is not swung at is ruled a ball. A strike is a pitch that either goes into the strike zone not swung at, a pitch that goes into the strike zone tipped into the catcher's glove, or any pitch that is swung at and missed. A strike can also occur if the batter hits a foul ball with less then two strikes on him, otherwise it is just a spoiled pitch.

There are two possible ways to get a strike. First the pitcher can pitch inside the zone which for most people is between the chin and the knees. Or the batter swings at the pitch, and it doesn't matter what pitch, miss and that is a strike. A ball is when the pitcher throws the ball outside of the zone and the batter doesn't swing at it. so those are basically the differences.

A strike is a pitch that is within the strike zone (basically over the plate between the knees and the numbers) or a pitch that the batter swings and misses on. Also a foul ball counts as a strike if there are less than2 strikes already. A ball is a pitch that is outside of the strikezone. It is indeed, BASEBALL!!

When the pitcher pitches, if the ball land's in the strike zone of the batter, or the batter should make contact and foul the pitch its a strike. If the pitch reaches the catcher and is no where near the strike zone of the batter its a ball.

A strike is a ball in the strike zone that is not swung at. Or, a strike is a ball pitched anywhere and swung on and missed. Also, a strike is a ball that is hit into foul territory. Three of them and you're out.
Anthing else is a ball. Four of them and you take you base.

A pitch is judged to be a ball or a strike when it CROSSES THE PLATE, not where it is caught. Setting up in the slot between the catcher and the batter, looking across home plate, it is very easy to see where the pitch is at that point. Incidentally, the hardest pitch for an umpire to call (especially without a lot of experience) is the outside corner.

A strike is when a ball is thrown over the plate, and is at a level between the hitters knees, and waist. A stike is also when a hitter swings, and misses hitting the ball. And, a stike can also mean a foul ball unless, he has two strikes before the foul ball. A ball is any pitch that doesn't cross the plate, and, the hitter couldn't have swung at it.
