There is no gene for that. The female releases two eggs that become fraternal twins, or one egg that splits in half to become identical twins. Fertility drugs and an older mother (usually 35+) are some factors that contribute to twins. The older mother thing happens because as a womans age comes closer to menopause her cycle becomes more unpredictable and she is more likely to release two eggs in the same month. Hope this helps!

The female. Her body releases more than one egg for fraternal, and the egg splits with identical. Actually identical twins is not hereditary, it is just a fluke. I have fraternal twins which runs on both sides of our families, but his side has no bearing on it.

There is no gene its just a fluke but the fluke happens in the female, the male has nothing to do with it.
