Smell and taste actually work together to determine what you taste. You can only taste five things: sweetness, sourness, bitterness, saltiness, and savoriness (if that's a real word) and your nose does the rest. Scientists are also finding that there may be a sixth receptor on you your tongue that can taste fatty acids.
OMG, I just went all scientific about a kiss, which was really the point, right? I'm sorry. The point is, if you smell and taste it, and your man gets close enough, he'll be able to, too. And as long as neither of you have bad breath, kissing with or without Lip Smackers can't be all that bad, right? :D
If you're just trying to keep your lips soft and chap free, lip balm will work for the immediate solution. A long term solution would be to drink more water and keep your body hydrated. For parts that are particularly dry or rough, brush your lips when you brush your teeth (but not too hard) to help remove some of the rough patches and follow up with the lip balm to help keep them soft and silky.

Yeah they have a taste. Ask your guy. Some guys like some flavors more than others. If you are a really bad kisser though you could inadvertantly turn him off of mangos or Strawberries for the rest of his life.

Honestly, guys don't like for girls to have lip gloss or lipstick on. They think it is sticky and gross, regardless of what it tastes like! Trust me, I love lip stick and lip gloss but my boyfriend hates it! I would just wear chapstick, honestly. :)

Unless your lips are dry and ing, leave it off. Use the lip stuff inbetween kisses to keep them soft.
