I saw a massage therapist regularly during my pregnancies and it really helped.

You could try chiropractic as well.

Pelvic rocking may help put baby into a better position and make you more comfortable.

Be aware of your posture.

In my experience, unless it's inflammation cold compresses make it hurt more because it constricts blood vessels. Warm makes it deconstrict and reduces pain.

If it's a really bad pain, you really should talk to your doctor in order to make sure there is nothing wrong. I would doubt it though, since it happened during your last pregnancy.

Anyway, some "alternative" treatments that should definitely help is some prenatal yoga stretches. Personally, I roll my eyes at all the weird hookiness of it, but the stretches really help to position the baby, ease discomforts, and best of all the breathing helps to calm down the aggravations of pregnancy.

At this point, you should not for any reason lay on your back. Sleep on your side with a pillow between your legs to reduce pain. When you sit, always have some kind of back brace (at least a rolled up towel) to prevent slouching.

As far as medications, they should (sadly) be avoided or at least not taken regularly. Tylenol does not pose a major risk during pregnancy. Do NOT use anti-inflammatory drugs. Most prescription pain relief drugs will cause some sort of addiction to a baby, but you should outweigh risks to benefits with a doctor.

I don't know where your back is hurting, but if it is the lower part (right above your buttocks) especially if it hurts on one side more than the other than it probably the baby on your siatic nerve(not sure about spelling). If the pain sometimes hurts so bad it runs down you leg(s) then this is definitely what the cause is. The only thing I have found to help this pain is to sit or lay which ever is best with (pregnant belly)and take the heel of your foot with one hand and the outside part of your foot with the other hand and pull it toward your stomach, if you feel a slight relief then that is what is going on. Do this exercise with both legs when hurting.
Hate to hear you in so much pain, hope this helps. And good luck with new baby!

I don't have any other suggestions besides for regular Tylenol which takes some of the edge off the pain and is OK to take during pregnancy. I hope it passes soon and I really really empathise.

hey...i know exactally what u r going through...both my pregnancies were hard on my back...i used a heating pad a night and laid on my side lots...use a prgnancy pillow, if u dont have one u can pick them up at walmart or toys r us... you cant really take anything while y r pregnant and dont really want to eaither...u can also get a birthing ball and do streches on it(yoga ball) it might turn the baby and get him or her of your back...even just sitting on the ball with good posture and doing pelvic rocks helps take the pressure off your back...Good Luck Hun...

Maybe a heating pad, or tylenol?? I know my doctor gave me fioricet for headaches, but don't know if that would work for back pain. You could ask though. Good luck.
